Lekjon cottages beside the lek Toba

The Lekjon Cottages in Samosir island (North Sumatra, Indonesia)

When we decided to choose the place that we’re going to stay in Samosir Island, we knew that the view is going to be awesome as we’re staying beside the lake. I think most of the accommodation will be beside Lake Toba. Actually to stay beside the lake, there are two choices … To stay on the island (Samosir Island) or on the main land. If in Samosir Island, the area is called Tuk-tuk (not that Tuk-tuk ride in Thailand :D) and the area on the main land is called Parapat. As we wanted to explore Samosir Island, so we preferred to stay in Tuk-tuk.

There are quite a few of alternatives of places to stay in Tuk-tuk, so we just chose anything that was available on the day of our visit. And so we booked Lekjon Cottages.

Lekjon Cottages is located exactly in front of or I could say beside the Lake Toba. We arrived here in the evening already so we couldn’t get to see the view of the lake. I think every cottages beside the lake has small ‘pier’, so it’s easy for the guest to step down from the boat.

Apparently the receptionist area and the cottages are in the different location. The receptionist area is in a different building behind the cottages, where this building is also functioned as a restaurant. Between the buildings, there’s a main road of Tuk-tuk.

The room in Lekjon cottages is very simple. A room with twin or double beds, a wardrobe, a dressing table, with a bathroom inside. For me the important thing for a room is the cleanliness and I could say that Lekjon is considered to be as clean as I could remember.

Actually some of the cottages shape is just like a Batak traditional house, where the end of the roof is pointing to the sky. In one ‘house’ there are two rooms, one in the first floor, and the other on the second floor. I believe the second floor will get a much better view than the first floor, but I think it’s not a big problem for me as I could just go out from the room to get the same view with the guests staying on the second floor πŸ™‚

The good thing about staying beside the Lake Toba is that the room doesn’t require Air Conditioner, as the weather is already cool. It’s also better for us to be outside of the room as we will always be greeted with a beautiful and picturesque view of Lake Toba and the hill in front of us. The sky was not always blue as I expected, but we were surprisingly had a very nice clear-blue sky on the last day of our stay there!

I know that some cottages in Samosir Island has a swimming pool in their area. Even though Lekjon Cottages doesn’t have a swimming pool, there’s a big ‘pool’ in front of the cottages that the guest can use every day. I know that there’s no staff watching while you’re swimming, but it’s possible to just sit beside the lake and play the water with your feet πŸ˜€

Me take it easy and just sitting beside the Lake Toba at Lekjon Cottages (North Sumatra, Indonesia)

Once in a while, there were some people using a mini boat came to the pier askingΒ whether the guests want to have a water activity with them. I’m not really sure what activities they have, but I think it’s only the basic water activities, but for me, sitting beside the lake and enjoy the view is enuff. πŸ™‚

The location of Lekjon Cottages is not in the remote area, means that you could go out to the street and walk around and still can find places to hang out. There are quite a few of cafes and restaurants nearby, not that really near but it’s still walkable. Around 5 minutes walk. And we found a restaurant that easily becomes our favourite place! Jenny’s restaurant! Btw, most of the cafes and restaurants will close if I’m not mistaken around 10PM, or perhaps earlier …

While we walked around to find something eat, I bumped into Anto who has a ‘rental car’ business, and offered to take us around the island for one day. After we agreed with the price then he took us to 6 places in Samosir Island. We could also ask him to go to Lekjon Cottages and picked-us-up there.

So from my opinion, Lekjon Cottages is a combination of a simple accommodation with friendly staff but with a great view in front of them …
