Visiting Gili is part of the Lombok trip that I won from Gonla.com. It’s only a day trip to Gili island π
Actually from the itinerary that I got, the plan was to visit Gili Trawangan, but after some discussion with my tour guide fromΒ @jelajah_lombok;Β we then decided to visit Gili Air. Usually people will go to Gili Trawangan because of the crowd and party. That’s why on my next visit, I will stay over in Gili Trawangan and go to some parties in the island :P. Gili Air is usually for people that wants a more laid back holiday, just relaxing …. And the last Gili in the northwest of Lombok, which is Gili Meno, is usually for honeymoon π There’s also a turtle breeding place in this island ….
We chartered a boat from Lombok to Gili Air. The trip itself probably took around 30 minutes. I think we arrived around 11pm …
When people visiting an island, there are many activities that can be done, from snorkeling, diving, cycling, or perhaps just relaxing on the beach. Same with what we did in Gili Air. We did the snorkeling, relaxing, and going around the island. For snorkeling, we didn’t need to bring the snorkeling gear because there’s a rental in the island. The snorkeling was fun, but unfortunately we didn’t bring any underwater cameras, so no pictures of many beautiful things underwater ;'(
The person who was renting the snorkeling gear said that sometimes people can see turtle when snorkeling in Gili Air, and yes we did (no photo as proof! π ). I saw one turtle swimming on the bottom of the sea (but my tour guide said that he saw three haha!), and suddenly one of the turtle swam to the surface. Apparently the turtle already familiar with the human as they came from the breeding place in Gili Meno, so it’s not afraid with the human π
I don’t like snorkeling near to the beach because it’s really close to the coral reef, so that’s why I went a bit far from the beach. Sometimes you don’t realize that you have gone too far from the beach, until I realized that the water has became colder than the water near the beach ;o)) .Β Anyway, no need to worry, there are people who will watch when you snorkeling. They will warn you if you go too far.
Going around the island is easy, with bicycle or cidomo, a traditional transportation in the Gili islands. Perhaps you’re wondering, that there’s no motor vehicle on the island. Yes, there’s none! π They keep it that way, so there will be no pollution. Because there’s no motor vehicle here, so the people use cidomo to carry the bags and as a transportation from the hotel to the port. Cidomo actually stands for cikar (the stick that connects the dokar with the horse), dokar (the place for the driver and passengers), and motor (the wheels). Gili Air is a small island, so it took us about 30 minutes or more with the cidomo, depends whether you stop at some places or not. Well I did stop at some places to take pictures of a beautiful beach.
Along the way, we saw many lodgings, cafes, and restaurants … Most of them are located in the crowded area, just like Sunrise Gili Air, the place where we had lunch and relax;Β but there are some of which are located at the other side of the island …
We left the island around 3pm, and the wave was already quite high … So put all you electronic devices into your bag, and get ready to be wet π
…
So which Gili island have you visited? And which one is your favourite? π
